Post box given crocheted 'hat' in mystery makeover

A crocheted 'hat' has appeared on a post box New Moston, sparking a hunt for the mystery crafter.

The Royal Mail box on Hollinwood Avenue in New Moston was given a jazzy make-over on Tuesday thanks to a colourful hand-made cover placed over the top.

Post Office staff and members of the New Moston community were delighted with the sunny design, and now want to find the secret crocheter.

Natalie Parren, who works in the Post Office on Hollinwood Avenue, said: "We think it was put on there between 8-9am on Tuesday morning.

"We have no idea who's made it and we'd love to find out. We all thought it was great."

So far no one has come forward to claim their craftsmanship.

Although it's one of the first 'hats' to appear on a red post boxes in Manchester, mystery knitters have been making their mark across the country during the pandemic.

Earlier this year post boxes across London were snapped wearing woollen covers made by guerrilla knitters.

Londoners rushed to share their love for the "beautiful", "amazing" and "simply fabulous" covers, but the details about who made them are still a bit woolly...

"Well done who ever you are," one comment said.
