Possilpark fire as emergency crews race to huge blaze

Fire crews were called to a blaze in North Glasgow as huge plumes of smoke were allegedly seen billowing above the area.

Officers raced to Ardoch Street in Possilpark on Tuesday. The alarm was raised just before 3.30pm and two appliances were sent to tackle the flames.

Crews found a large pile of tyres to be ablaze. One stricken bystander told Glasgow Live he noticed the fire while on nearby Saracen Street and saw 'lots of smoke in the area'.

The inferno was extinguished and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) left the area once it was 'made safe'. The exact cause of fire and the time at which crews left the scene was not disclosed.

A spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 3.27pm on Tuesday, July 19 to reports of a pile of tyres on fire in Ardoch Street, Glasgow. Operations control immediately mobilised two fire appliances to the location and firefighters extinguished the fire.

“Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”
