Possible thunderstorms on the way

Make the most of a short sunny break expected on Monday morning, because more wet spring weather will roll into the ACT later in the day, with a 90 per cent chance of unsettled conditions and possibly severe thunderstorms in the afternoon and early evening.

The rain gods spared the spectators as the Brumbies marched to their national Super Rugby title at Bruce Stadium on Saturday night, but the weather rolled in overnight and showers then continued on and off through Sunday.

A trough of low pressure which moved across from the central west created Sunday's unsettled weather, but there's a more traditional cold front and low pressure system coming up from the south on Monday.

Fortunately Monday's temperature won't dip too low, with the Bureau of Meteorology expecting overnights of around 8 degrees, and the daytime temperature likely to be in the mid to low 20s.

The trough will push through and temperatures become cooler mid-week. Partly cloudy conditions are predicted for for Tuesday and Wednesday, with daytime temperatures in the mid to late teens.

What is surprising is that the snow season may not be as done and dusted as some might have believed, even though Thredbo announced the end to its season on Sunday.

The Perisher Valley forecast is for a high chance of snow showers from Tuesday onward, with minimum overnight temperatures in the mountains falling to -2 degrees next Friday and Saturday.

Perisher will remain open until October 5.
