'Possible' shooting on Cheetham Hill street as car pictured with smashed back window

Police were called to reports of a 'possible' shooting in Cheetham Hill.

A section of Spender Avenue, at the junction with Huxley Avenue, was sealed off on Sunday evening (September 1).

Officers were called just after 6.30pm.

A Toyota with a smashed back window was pictures as forensic teams scoured the scene.

Police have been unable to confirm if shots were fired.

There are no reports of any injuries.

Photographs taken from the scene show a large police presence in the street on Sunday evening.

One was seen on his hands and knees shining a torch at the ground.

In a statement, a spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "At 6.34pm on Sunday, September 1, police received a call to Spender Avenue, Cheetham Hill, reporting a possible firearms discharge.

"Officers are currently on scene investigating the circumstances.

"There are no reported injuries at this time."

In an update, police said an 18-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm.
