Possible Redskins free-agency target Landon Collins reportedly won’t receive franchise tag

The Washington Redskins might have a shot at New York Giants safety Landon Collins in free agency after all.

According to a new report, the Giants won’t slap the franchise tag on Collins:

Call it perfect news for a Redskins team in need of help at the position.

And remember — during his draft process, Collins said his dream was to play for the Redskins.

Joking aside, the Redskins shouldn’t have a problem being competitive for Collins on the open market if he makes it there. They have had a first-row seat to his dominance in the NFC East since he entered the league.

Collins, the 33rd pick in 2015, has 96 or more total tackles in each of his four seasons and eight interceptions. He’ll require top dollar for the position, but it’s a small price to pay for a Redskins team that cut D.J. Swearinger and didn’t get much out of Ha Ha Clinton-Dix after a trade.
