Possible Lions draft target Nico Collins raises his profile at Michigan’s pro day

Michigan held its pro day workout on Friday. And while GM Brad Holmes and head coach Dan Campbell were in Utah to check out the Zach Wilson show at BYU’s pro day, the Detroit Lions were well-represented in nearby Ann Arbor for the Wolverines’ workout.

One of the primary attractions for the Lions is wide receiver Nico Collins, and the big outside WR did not disappoint. Collins, who did not play in 2020 as a COVID-19 opt-out, put on quite an athletic display in front of the Lions and 30 other teams (the Rams sat this one out).

Collins blazed a 4.43 in the 40-yard dash, an impressive feat for a 6-foot-4, 215-pound receiver. Where Collins really opened eyes was in the 3-cone drill. Not noted for his wiggle or agility on the field during his playing career, Collins posted an astonishing 6.71 in the drill.

The Lions met with Collins during Senior Bowl week and have also had a pre-draft visit with the receiver, who is generally projected to come off the board in the second or third round. His profile fits with the direction the Lions are heading at wide receiver, emphasizing speed and the ability to get open at all layers of the defense.
