Officials say hearts found in Loop alley are not human

0-100 block of East Benton Place | Google Maps

Authorities have determined that five hearts found Friday in the Loop alley are not human.

The hearts were found about 9:30 a.m. in the first block of East Benton Place, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

A police source said Friday morning that the hearts might be human, but the medical examiner’s office has ruled that they are not.

No ruling was made on which animal the hearts belonged to, but medical examiner’s office said they did not belong to a primate.

No additional tests will be performed to determine the species of the hearts because the medical examiner’s office only deals with humans, a spokesperson for the office said.

Area Central detectives are investigating.
