The Hunter New England Local Health District has confirmed a COVID-19 case in the NSW Mid North Coast town of Forster poses no threat to the community.

The woman acquired the coronavirus in Newcastle when in close contact with another positive case.

A spokesperson for the local health district says the woman travelled from Newcastle to Tuncurry on August 5 after receiving a negative test result, but subsequently tested positive on August 9.

Myall Lakes MP Stephen Bromhead said she was at home isolating.

"There is no evidence thus far of community transmission."

Mr Bromhead said the woman has been isolating from family but the case is very concerning.

"It's something that we hoped wouldn't happen," Mr Bromhead said.

Mr Bromhead released the information via social media before a public release of information from the Hunter New England Health District and NSW Health.

He said he wanted to be on the front foot for the community.

"I wanted to bring it out in the public as soon as possible, to stop the rumours, so people understand what the situation is," the MP said.

Mr Bromhead said he hopes the case highlights the need for people to consider any travel carefully and take precautions.

"So if we all do the right thing, if we all get vaccinated, if we all wear a mask and get tested at the slightest symptons, wash our hands, all those things, then it shouldn't get from LGA to LGA," he said.
