Posh kebab chain announces it will open six new restaurants around Liverpool

A posh kebab chain, that runs one of London's most popular restaurants, has announced its intention to open six stores in Liverpool, with the first one set for the New Year.

German Doner Kebab (GDK) is bringing its "unique", gourmet dining experience to the city, after revealing its like-for-like sales had risen by almost 50%.

It's listed as one of the country's fastest growing restaurant chains, with 36 outlets already opened in the past two years- and its Fulham store is listed on Tripadvisor as the city's number one 'quick bites' venue out of more than 1,500, as BusinessLive reports .

The restaurant says its "unique" dining experience aims to appeal to the next generation of customers, "who will love [its] slick appearance, great-tasting high-quality product range, and quick serving times".

The Glasgow-based firm whose first restaurant was in Berlin specialises in "healthy kebabs", as well as sides that include flaming fries, doner nachos and doner spring rolls.

The first Liverpool branch is set to open in the second quarter of 2020, creating 25 jobs, with "plans afoot" for a further five stores in the city.

It's not yet known where the first store in Liverpool will be.

Daniel Bunce, GDK MD for UK and Ireland, said: “We managed to keep it under wraps, but we are now very excited to confirm that we will be bringing German Doner Kebab to Liverpool.

The UK’s appetite for our delicious gourmet kebabs and extensive range of sides means that it is only right we continue to forge ahead our strong growth plans and bring GDK to one of Britain’s most iconic cities.

“Our Liverpool opening is just the latest in a line of key strategic locations that we believe will bolster our mission to bring our unique product to even more consumers, while reaffirming our commitment to creating significant job opportunities across the UK.”

The firm said the Liverpool opening will form part of a larger expansion framework which will see the fast-casual brand announce its arrival in a host of other cities across the UK.

The UK growth plans follows news that the brand is embarking on plans to expand into Saudi Arabia. The Ajlan and Brothers Group has been signed-up as the master franchisee, with a development agreement of 100 stores over the next ten years.

The firm also operates stores in Sweden, Dubai, Abu-Dhabi, Oman and Bahrain.

The firm recently reported a 49.6% annual increase in like-for-like sales, bucking a nationwide trend "that has left many rival outlets struggling to retain their grip on the market".
