Ballad Of Dog's Beach will be the next programme presented by RCB Film Club with the support of the Embassy of Portugal and Camões Portuguese Cultural Center in Bangkok, at the RCB Forum, 2nd floor of River City Bangkok, Charoen Krung 24, on June 8 at 4pm
Directed by José Fonseca e Costa, the Portuguese cult film of the 1980s created big waves in Portugal and overseas and received many honours and awards.
Set in the 1960s, during the dictatorship regime in Portugal, the film opens on an arresting note, when the corpse of a brutally murdered soldier is found on Dog's Beach. Inspector Elia is assigned the task of uncovering this death, which takes him into a world of love, passion, tension and political intrigues.
The dead soldier turns out to be Major Luis Dantas, a political revolutionary who had been placed in a military prison but escapes. He takes refuge in an abandoned house and is joined by two other insurgents. Tensions and complications arise, when the beautiful girl who stays in the neighbourhood discovers them and begins a torrid affair with Dantas.
However, she soon finds herself attracting the attention of the other two soldiers. It is a ménage a trois that is complex and dangerous, and someone has to pay a price for it.
The screening is part of the National Day celebrations of the Embassy of Portugal in Thailand. It will be followed by a reception of Portuguese wines and snacks, hosted by the embassy in collaboration with Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel. Portuguese Ambassador HE Francisco Vaz Patto will introduce the film.
