Portugal manager provides Cristiano Ronaldo update after positive coronavirus test

Portugal boss Fernando Santos says Cristiano Ronaldo is not suffering any symptoms after the star tested positive for coronavirus.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner is self-isolating in the team's hotel after he received the results of the test on Tuesday, and he will miss his side's Nations League game against Sweden on Wednesday.

He also looks set to be absent from Juventus ' next few matches due to the fact he will have to continue self-isolating for two weeks.

This means he could miss a showdown with Lionel Messi and co when the Italian giants take on Barcelona in the Champions League on October 28.

Despite the bad news, Santos assured worried supporters that Ronaldo was doing fine in a press conference ahead of the game against Sweden.

"No team can be better without the best player in the world but this team has already demonstrated that collectively it has the capacity to tackle the situation," he said.

"He is managing the situation very well. He is in the room, saying he wants to play, he talks to us from upstairs [from his balcony].

"He is completely asymptomatic, he is okay, without any symptoms, he doesn’t even know what happened to him."

Despite Ronaldo's positive test, every other Portugal player were negative, and they will all be allowed to take to the field against Sweden.

Ronaldo played the full 90 minutes of Portugal's goalless draw with France in Paris on Sunday, having also featured against Spain in Lisbon last Thursday.

He posed for photos with his team-mates at a dinner on Monday night as they continued preparations for their clash with the Swedes.

Portugal go into the match top of Group C having won two of their opening fixtures and drawing the other against Les Bleus.
