Portugal hits unvaccinated Scots holidaymakers with 14 day quarantine period after covid surge

Portugal will force all unvaccinated Scots holidaymakers to quarantine for 14 days after a surge in positive Covid cases.

The new law takes effect from today and will continue until at least July 11, officials have confirmed.

All travellers from the UK must self-isolate ‘at home or in a place indicated by health authorities’ after arriving at the popular holiday hotspot.

Anyone who can prove they have been fully vaccinated at least two weeks prior to their arrival will be exempt.

The new rule also does not apply to children under the age of 12 or to those visiting Madeira.

Portugal was initially placed on the Scottish Government’s ‘green list’ but has since been moved to amber over fears about the Delta variant.

Anyone returning from the tourist destination must isolate for 10 days while also taking two Covid-19 tests during the quarantine period.
