Portugal could be placed back on quarantine list as coronavirus cases pass UK Government threshold

Portugal could be at risk of being added to the UK's list of countries with a mandatory quarantine due to a rise in coronavirus cases.

In the seven days to August 30, there were 21.1 coronavirus cases per 100,000 people in Portugal - up from 19.4.

A number of EasyJet flights from UK airports to destinations across Portgual were already unavailable on Friday, August 21, My London reports.

Jet2 was among the airlines aiming to capitalise on the rush, adding extra seats to Faro from Monday, August 24, from across the UK.

The latest countries to be added to the 14-day quarantine list includes Switzerland, Jamaica and the Czech Republic, with the new restrictions in place from after 4am on Saturday following spikes in Covid-19 infection rates.

Nicola Sturgeon has previously warned the public that the countries named on the quarantine exemption list can swiftly change, advising people not to go abroad if they require a guarantee that they won't need to quarantine.
