Portsmouth have come up trumps in the race to sign Sunderland 'target' Clark Robertson.
The 27-year-old is expected to sign on the dotted line for Danny Cowley's side in the coming days.
Pompey will have fought off the likes of Fleetwood Town, Plymouth, Aberdeen and Sunderland if they secure his signature.
Robertson is set to become a free agent when his contract with Rotherham United expires this month.
The centre-half began his career with Aberdeen before moving to Blackpool in 2015. He clocked up over 100 appearances with the Tangerines before joining the Millers in 2018.
He played just 16 times for United in the Championship last season and struggled to nail down a spot in the side.
Robertson would become Cowley's second signing of the window having signed hot prospect Liam Vincent from National League side Bromley.
Speaking earlier this month about the spending in League One, Cowley said: "I look at League One and see it as the most competitive it has been in many years.
"You look at the size of the clubs - the three that were relegated - Wycombe are well financed, Rotherham are always very competitive and Sheffield Wednesday are a huge club at this level.
"The teams around promotion - Sunderland are huge, Ipswich and Wigan have new owners and a number of other clubs are being really aggressive with their recruitment and the finances they have available.
"We know it will be very competitive.”
