Portsmouth coach responds to Bristol Rovers' reported interest in Brandon Haunstrup

Joe Gallen has played down speculation linking Bristol Rovers with a move for Portsmouth left-back Brandon Haunstrup.

The Gas were yesterday said to be interested in the Pompey full-back, who is out of contract in the summer.

Yet, speaking to the Portsmouth News, Pompey assistant Gallen said he was unaware of any interest from Rovers- and that he likely would have heard if the Gas did want to sign Haunstrup.

He said: "I have not heard anything.

"I probably would have done but I've not heard anything.

"It was mentioned to me (the rumour) earlier today but I’ve not heard anything.

"Not only has Brandon played left-back, but he had a decent spell at right-back at a time when we also won games.

"He’s done pretty well there and Brandon can play both positions."

The Gas' interest in Haunstrup did always seem unlikely for January - Rovers currently have Luke Leahy, Tareiq Holmes-Dennis and Michael Kelly on their books at left-back, meaning it is likely there are other areas of the pitch they would want to prioritise strenghtening.
