Portsmouth boss Danny Cowley has dismissed speculation linking Manchester City goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu with a move to Liverpool.
The 19-year-old made the move to the south coast on a season-long loan during the summer, and has impressed with his performances at Fratton Park so far.
The Republic of Ireland international is joint-top for clean sheets in League One, and his form for Pompey has led to suggestions that a number of clubs are keeping a keen eye on him.
Among those sides linked are City’s Premier League title rivals Liverpool, while Bournemouth and a number of other Championship sides have reportedly been impressed by Bazunu’s performances.
With the January transfer window just a matter of weeks away now, speculation has built that Bazunu could be on the move, although Cowley insists he’s had no contact about cutting the goalkeeper’s stay at Portsmouth short.
“I’m pretty sure Manchester City are not going to want to sell Gavin Bazunu,” Cowley told Hampshire Live.
“I don’t want to speak for Manchester City. I’d be shocked if they did, just because of the potential he has, his capabilities. That would be something you’d have to ask Manchester City.
“We’re certainly confident that he’s going to be with us for the season.”
City do have a recall clause for Bazunu in his deal with Pompey, but only in the event of a serious injury crisis at the Etihad.
With Ederson, Zack Steffen, Scott Carson and Ciaran Slicker all currently ahead of him in the pecking order, it would take a remarkable series of injuries to see the 19-year-old brought back before the end of the season.
