Porto manager insists outcome was 'unfair' against Liverpool in Champions League

FC Porto boss Sérgio Conceição insisted the outcome was “unfair” after seeing his side thrashed by Liverpool at the Estadio do Dragao for the second successive season.

The Reds inflicted a crushing 4-1 defeat to go through 6-1 on aggregate and set up a semi-final with Barcelona.

Liverpool, who beat Porto 5-0 last season, had to survive an early onslaught before taking control after Sadio Mane broke the deadlock.

Jurgen Klopp explains tactical switch that helped Liverpool beat Porto in Champions League

In the second half the Reds simply picked Porto off on the counter with Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino scoring before Virgil van Dijk nodded home from a corner.

“Liverpool only had four shots on goal and scored four goals which demonstrates the quality of their team,” Conceição said.

“I think it is unfair. We deserved more, the public deserved more, but we gave a very positive image of Portuguese football.

“We did not deserve to come away from Anfield with a two-goal difference.

“Today we knew it was possible, we prepared a strategy that I think was appropriate, and at first we did well at all levels.

“Our Champions League campaign was fantastic. Liverpool are a very strong team.”
