Porto manager hits out at Bernardo Silva post after Man City home game

Porto manager Sergio Conceicao has belatedly hit out at Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva for his post on social media after the two sides met in the Champions League in October.

City beat Porto 3-1 in the first group stage meeting at the Etihad, in a game that saw tempers flare on the touchlines between Conceicao and his staff, and the City bench.

The post-match interviews of that game saw Conceicao criticise the behaviour of Guardiola, accusing City's staff of influencing the referee during the previous 90 minutes. But one comment that went under the radar for Conceicao was that of Bernardo on social media.

Bernardo, a former Benfica player and boyhood supporter of Porto's rivals, simply tweeted: "This one felt so good!"

So ahead of City's trip to Porto tonight, Conceicao was asked about Bernardo's tweet, with the manager calling the Portuguese international 'childish'.

“Our victories are all tasty. Obviously, the victories that lead to the titles are even more delicious. We celebrate titles and not victories," he said.

"This is my analysis and my way of being in football. This is a childishness, which doesn’t tell me exactly anything.

"The victories are all tasty if they are important to celebrate titles, otherwise they are useless. The victories are really tasty, but if they give you titles.”

Bernardo is one of three Portugal internationals who could feature for City, along with Joao Cancelo and Ruben Dias, but Conceicao was not having any suggestions that it would be nice to see the trio play in their native country.

“Whether the Portuguese go to the game or not, I don’t care," he said.

"What I ask is that when they represent the national team they are better today than they were yesterday. They can do a little more in the national team, that if they win, I’m always happy. Now if they’ll play tomorrow for City, I don’t have to get involved.”
