Porto boss Sergio Conceicao wary of Chelsea FC backlash after West Brom defeat

Porto boss Sergio Conceicao is more fearful of Chelsea after they lost to West Brom as defeats like that “make the siren sound and everyone more alert”.

The Blues were stunned by relegation candidates West Brom at the weekend and fell to a 5-2 defeat at Stamford Bridge.

Next up, they face Porto in the quarter-finals of the Champions League - with the first leg taking place in Spain on Wednesday.

Chelsea’s defeat against the Baggies - the first reverse of Thomas Tuchel’s reign - might provide cause for optimism for the Portuguese outfit, but Conceicao is wary of a backlash.

“You know that Thiago Silva was sent off in the first-half [agasint West Brom] and that the game had a different course,” he said.

“Chelsea until this last game had been extremely competent, they have not lost a game in the Champions League, they have the second best defence in the Champions League and also in the Premier League.

“It is a competent team, and when these defeats happen it serves as a warning. If you want my opinion, I would prefer that they won the last game.

“Because these situations make the siren sound and everyone more alert, more awake to danger, and I honestly don’t like these defeats very much.”
