Porto boss says Liverpool are 'best in world' but outlines plan for Champions League shock

Porto boss Sergio Conceicao believes Liverpool are at times “the best team in the world” but has outlined how his team can pull off a Champions League shock.

The Reds are favourites to progress after securing a 2-0 quarter-final first leg lead at Anfield last Tuesday.

Porto, though, were not without their chances and welcome back key players Pepe and Hector Herrera for Wednesday's return clash at the Estadio do Dragao.

Barcelona president opens door to Philippe Coutinho departure - but only on one condition

And while full of praise for Liverpool, Conceicao is confident the deficit can be overturned.

“Liverpool give me all what I like about football,” he said. “In terms of their players and the way they play in the game.

“I like the Liverpool dynamics. I like the Liverpool game model. I like the way they play and the way they are with the ball – and also without it.

“It is similar to how I see football and in a lot of these moments in a game, they are the best team in the world.

Sadio Mane's comments about Jurgen Klopp prove his future is at Liverpool

“Against Liverpool, we must be a very, very strong team in the defence and we must be balanced. If we show the commitment we did in the last round against Roma, we will make life difficult for them.

“The match is difficult to prepare because of the disadvantage we face. We are two goals behind a team which is very strong in attack so we need to be careful and not concede any more.

“They have players which are very strong doing that but we have a strong team with a lot of mobility.”

Herrera also spoke ahead of the match and believes Porto can take confidence from their performance at Anfield.

The Champions League mindset change which proves Jurgen Klopp has restored Liverpool's European reputation

“Is this is a revenge match? No,” said the midfielder. “I thought we were very good during the match but committed some mistakes and they took advantage.

“This is the past and we have an excellent opportunity and I believe we can get a positive result.

"I think we can damage a team as good as Liverpool.”
