Portmarnock writer's delight after film picked up by Amazon Prime

A Portmarnock man received the best Christmas present ever after a film he wrote was picked up by Amazon Prime.

Kealan Ryan first made headlines after being tipped as the newest Irish literary sensation following the release of his first book in April.

Authors like Joseph O'Connor and Derek Landy heaped praise on Ryan's debut novel The Middle Place.

And now the 40-year-old has once again found success as the film LIFT is available to stream on Amazon Prime.

Ryan, who wrote and starred in the film, described LIFT as a “fun feel-good movie to enjoy over Christmas”.

The synopsis for the film says: “Written by best-selling author, Kealan Ryan (The Middle Place), LIFT tells the story of Sean (Fiach Kunz – Black 47, Game of Thrones) whose vicious and seemingly random attack on a security guard leaves the man unconscious.

“Fleeing the scene, Sean finds himself stranded in an elevator with five strangers. His every panicked action repels, rather than endears him to those trapped inside.

“Nonetheless, from within the confines of the lift, love has a chance of blossoming, personalities clash and violence could erupt in a given moment. Sean seems fated to be caught, unless the people who fear him can offer him one last chance of redemption.”

The film is made by Dublin director, Conor Armstrong Sanfey, and the ensemble cast also includes screen legend Gerard McSorley (Veronica Guerin, Father Ted), Hannah Crowley (Damo and Ivor), Kealan Ryan (Soulsmith), Steven Gorman (Demon Hunter), Colin Walsh (DannyBoy), Meaghan Gallagher (Demon Hunter) and Alan Sherlock (Spiders Trap).

The comedy/drama film was shot in Ireland in 2015 on a budget of just €15,000.
