Portmarnock Golf Club will allow female members to join the club for the first time in its 127-year anniversary after a vote was passed.
Members of the club voted on Wednesday to end their male-only membership policy, which has been in place since the club was founded in 1894.
Over 83% of members voted in favour of the rule change, with 16.6% voting against, reports Dublin Live.
The old rulebook in club read: "The club shall consist of members and associate members who shall be gentlemen properly elected and who shall conform with the rules of amateur status."
That rule, Rule 3, will now be amended to take out the wording "who shall be gentlemen".
Minster for Sport Catherine Martin reacted positively to the news on social media, saying: "I welcome this decision and hope women in the community now take up golf and perhaps in future we'll see even more women go pro."
