Limerick dad and young son killed in horror Offaly crash named locally as Vincent and Sully Rossi

A father and son who were tragically killed in a horror car crash on Monday evening have been named locally as Vincent and Sully Rossi.

Both died after the car they were travelling in hit an articulated truck on the N80, at Scruff, Killeigh, Co Offaly.

It is understood that Vincent, 30, was the driver of the car and was travelling with three other passengers.

One of those passengers was his son, Sully, five, who also passed away.

Gardai say that a young girl was airlifted to Crumlin Children’s Hospital with "life-threatening" injuries, while a fourth male was taken to Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore.

According to local media reports, Vincent, who was known to friends as 'Finch' is originally from Limerick and was living in Green Mill Court, Portlaoise.

Hundreds of people have paid tribute to Vincent and Sully online, with a relative sharing several photos of the father and son.

Speaking to The Irish Daily Mirror, a family member said: "I am speechless, no words can describe how we feel."

Another posted under the images: "So sorry. Can't imagine what you and your family going through at this sad time."

Gardaí have appealed for anybody for information about the crash to come forward.

A garda spokesman said: A spokesman said: “Gardaí in Tullamore Co Offaly are investigating a two vehicle fatal road traffic collision which occurred at Scrubb, Killeigh, Tullamore at approximately 5pm this afternoon Monday 27th May, 2019.

“A car and an articulated truck were in collision at the above location.

"The male driver of the car in his 30s and a five-year-old boy (passenger) were fatally injured, a young girl (age unknown) was airlifted to Crumlin Children’s Hospital with life threatening injuries and a fourth passenger in the car (male age unknown) has been taken to the Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore.

“The male driver of the truck (only occupant) was also taken to the Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore with minor injuries.

“Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information in relation to this collision to contact Tullamore Garda Station on 057-9327600, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.

"Witnesses are asked to contact Tullamore Garda Station on 0579327600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station."
