Portishead and Keynsham recycling centres open again tomorrow

Portishead and Keynsham recycling centres will re-open tomorrow – but there will strict measures in place for those visiting.

Both been closed since the Government lockdown came into force.

The sites are due to re-open again tomorrow (Wednesday, May 27) but there will be strict measures in place with people only allowed to visit once a month.

Portishead reopening

The recycling centre will operate its normal summer opening hours which are 8am to 6pm on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday and 10am to 6pm on Thursdays.

The centre will remain closed on Tuesdays and open from 9am to 6pm on Saturdays, 9am to 5pm on Sundays.

A traffic management company will be managing vehicles visiting the site and a strict ‘one in, one out’ policy in place with limits on how many people will be allowed on the site at any one time.

There will be no right turn into the recycling centre going up Valley Road with people being directed to access the site using the roundabout by the police headquarters and turning back down the hill.

There will be an advisory 30 mph limit in place on Valley Road and portable electronic display signs advising on speed and the length of queues.

No trailers will be allowed in to the site and advisory detours for traffic not visiting the recycling centre will be put in place.

Only one person will be allowed outside each vehicle at one time although exceptions will be made for people with mobility issues where two people can unload to same vehicle.

Staff will not be able to help unload vehicles and people should only bring items which they can comfortably lift on their own.

Only one person will be allowed at each skip at any one time and social distancing should be adhered to at all times.

People are also being asked to bring their own protective gloves to wear while unloading rubbish.

Entry to the recycling centre will also be on a number plate based system which was also introduced at Weston-super-Mare recycling centre which re-opened earlier this month.

Vehicles with odd number plates should visit on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays while those with even number plates can visit on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Keynsham reopening

Keynsham Recycling Centre is also due to open tomorrow (Wednesday, May 27).

It will also operate a number plate system for those wanting to visit with a one in, one out policy in place to ensure social distancing guidelines can be met.

Those with odd number plates can visit on May 27, 29. 31 and on June 2,4,6,8 and 10.

Those with even number plates will be able to visit on May 28 and 30 and on June 1,3,5,7 and June 9.

People should take along proof of address to prove residency to use the tip.

Staff will not be able to help unload vehicles and only four vehicles will be able to unload on site at any time.

Those visiting should not take anything to the centre which could be disposed of through the household or recycling collections.

A council spokemsan said: " Anyone not adhering to the social distancing rules will be asked to leave - we will only remain open when it is safe to do so.

"If anyone acts in an irresponsible manner, we may have to close or change the way we work."

The recycling centre will open from 8am to 7.30pm Monday to Friday, 8am to 3.45pm on Saturdays and 8am to 1pm on Sundays.

Backwell Reycling Centre is due to open on Friday, May 29 with measures surrounding its operation due to be announced later this week.
