Porthcawl seafront to have new information centre in old bait shop

A new information centre is opening up in Porthcawl in the old bait shop on the seafront.

The centre, which will be staffed by volunteers, will provide information on the town and further afield.

It has been organised and funded by Experience Porthcawl, a subsidiary of Credu Charity which is behind the new maritime centre .

And local businesses have been helping out with supplies for the new centre.

Town councillor Mike Clarke, who is also a director of Credu Charity, said: “The refurbishment has been completed and we are now organising rotas for the volunteers who will operate it.

“We will be opening it within the next fortnight.

“In partnership with the town council Experience Porthcawl is also placing interactive information boards at various places in the town, Rest Bay, and Newton so that visitors will be able to find out what restaurants and cafes are around, for example.

“If people are coming to Porthcawl we want to try and hook them in to stay in Porthcawl for staycations.

“But we recognise there are also other places in the county which are worth visiting like Maesteg town centre and various attractions.

“It’s about trying to use the sea and the seaside as a way of bringing the tourists to Porthcawl and to other parts of the county borough.”
