Portadown pull out of Joe Gorman deal three days after announcing signing

Portadown have pulled out of a deal for Joe Gorman just three days after announcing the defender's signing.

The Shamrock Park club had confirmed the 27-year-old's capture on Saturday.

But on Tuesday the Ports said the deal "has not been concluded".

In a brief statement posted on the club's social media, Portadown said: "Update on Joe Gorman signing After further discussions this deal has not been concluded.

"We wish Joe all the best for his future career."

Portadown have not commented further on the deal, but it comes following a supporter backlash over a historic social media post Gorman made in 2014.

Gorman, 27, was suspended by Inverness Caledonian Thistle in 2014 after a tweet appeared on his account apparently referring to Ross Kemp's Extreme World programme, which was filmed in Belfast.

It read: "Ross Kemp in Belfast talking about the Troubles. Wouldn't you just love to open up on all them Orangemen."

The post was quickly deleted and the then 19-year-old's account deactivated.

Portadown Football Club came in for heavy criticism after announcing the player's signing on Saturday.

One person said: “Portadown have now sunk to a new low, I for one will not be going to support any team this individual is playing in.”

Another described it as a "shocking signing".

Gorman was most recently with Galway United in the League of Ireland and his former clubs include Drogheda, Airdrie, Cliftonville and Longford Town.
