Portadown man runs 100 miles in Toronto for Cystic Fibrosis

A Portadown man has run 100 miles in Toronto to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis.

Ben Caldwell, 29, took a leap of faith in March and moved to Canada on his own.

But just two days later lockdown was announced and Ben decided to do something positive for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

It funds research to treat and cure Cystic Fibrosis and aims to ensure appropriate clinical care and support for people with CF.

The keen runner told Belfast Live : "I always wanted to run 100 miles so I just put the two together.

"I’ve been generally running and training my whole life through football and other sports, but nothing like this distance.

"I have someone close to my heart that has Cystic Fibrosis and I see the way he gets through it with no complaints and the dedication it takes to lead a healthy life - he inspires me.

"So if I could do anything to raise some money or raise awareness and help those who need it and also future generations, then I thought I should."

The route was along Toronto’s Lake Shore, with Ben keeping it as a short six mile loop for safety.

He added: "So it was just me, my car and a few friends to help me and I repeated that loop for 100 miles.

"At the moment there is £3,800 donated which is amazing as my initial target was £1,500. So I’m overwhelmed at that.

"I feel that with everything that’s going on there is no better time to help each other if we can. Even if it’s the smallest things, they can go a long way."
