Portadown FC players go back to school as club launches new initiative

Portadown players went back to school this week to help launch a new initiative aimed at getting more younger fans through the turnstiles.

‘Primary School Saturday’ will see 200 free match tickets offered to primary school children from the greater Portadown area.

They will get to come along to Shamrock Park to watch the Ports take on Dungannon Swifts in the Danske Bank Premiership on Saturday, September 25 (3pm kick-off).

Players including Oisin Conaty and Lee Bonis went back to school this week to promote the initiative, along with Ports manager Matthew Tipton.

Community Director, Dave Wiggins, explained: "‘First team players, Oisin Conaty, Luke Wilson, Lee Bonis and Harry Anderson all went to various primary schools around Portadown and we are extremely proud that they now represent our town at the highest level of football in Northern Ireland.

"They are all young, talented players who now find themselves being idolised as by young people around the town."

Dave added: "The free tickets will be available from the club website, portadownfc.co.uk, from 8pm on Tuesday, September 21 on a first come first served basis.

"A paying adult can bring up to three primary aged children for free and each child will receive a small treat to eat at half-time.

"Oisin and Lee have been back visiting their old primary schools, where they were warmly received by principals and teachers, with numerous stories being relayed to Portadown manager Matthew Tipton."
