Portadown FC complete loan signing of Aston Villa teenager

Portadown bolstered their ranks on transfer deadline day with the signing of Aston Villa youngster Ben Guy.

The 19-year-old midfielder has joined the Ports on a season-long loan.

Guy has been with Villa since he was just eight years old and has gone on to represent the Premier League club at Under 18, 21 and 23 level.

He spent the second half of last season on loan with Belper Town, who play in the Northern Premier League Division One South East.

Ports manager Matthew Tipton said he was excited to bring Guy to Shamrock Park ahead of the new Danske Bank Premiership season which kicks off on October 17.

"Ben Guy is coming into us on a season long loan from Aston Villa. Ben is a midfielder that can both sit in front of the back four or play further forward," Tipton told Portadown's website.

"We are delighted that both he and Aston Villa have entrusted us to further his football education and we are looking forward to working with Ben.

"I must place on record my thanks to Dave for all his groundwork in getting the ball rolling with this transfer & also to Andy Rhodes from YMU group for all his assistance over the past few days."

Meanwhile, new arrival Guy added: "I’m thrilled to be joining Portadown on loan and I'm going to give 100% effort to the team and the club to help make the season a success."
