Portadown boss Matthew Tipton offers update on Lee Bonis

Matthew Tipton admits Portadown are facing decision time over the future of captain Lee Bonis.

Bonis looks set to leave Shamrock Park in January with a number of clubs being linked with big-money moves.

Larne, Linfield and Glentoran are all believed to be interested in the 22-year-old, with Portadown reportedly holding out for a £100,000 transfer fee for their talismanic striker.

Bonis wasn't included in Portadown's squad for Saturday's Irish Cup win over Limavady United, raising further speculation over his future at Shamock Park.

But Tipton says the striker wasn't involved after isolating over the past seven days.

Asked whether Bonis' departure was imminent, Tipton told the BBC: "I don't know on that.

"The reason why he wasn't in the squad was because he is isolating over the past seven days. He was only back today and he just didn't feel like he was ready to play.

"So I made the call then that I wasn't going to put him in the squad because of that, and all the other reasons."

It is believed Larne are in pole position to sign Bonis, while Tipton said there were "offers" in for the player.

Tipton added: "I suppose everybody knows that there are offers in for him but we will look at that.

"We will take in the Irish Cup draw then I will go in and have a conversation with the chairman, the vice chairman and the rest of the board and we will make a call on what's going to happen going forward."
