Portable bike simulator at Andheri: RTO

MUMBAI: RTO launched a portable bike simulator at its Andheri office on Friday morning. The transport department plans to introduce simulators at all 50 RTOs across Maharashtra. which will be part of overall tests for new driver's licence.

A senior official said, "We have a ground test, besides lectures for new licence applicants on road safety. Now, we will also have a simulator test for candidates to check real skills of riding a bike before issuing a licence." The simulator was set up by United Way Mumbai (UWM), a non-profit NGO. "We can test our skills in worst case scenarios such as heavy rain, riding bikes at night on dimly lit roads, or while on the highways," said an applicant for a bike licence.

This first simulator was at Tardeo RTO. Additional transport commissioner J B Patil launched the new simulator.
