Port Vale pondering loan move for young Nottingham Forest midfielder

Port Vale are interested in taking Nottingham Forest youngster Jake Taylor on loan this season, but only if they lose a player in the final week of the transfer window.

Vale and Forest have built a strong relationship in recent seasons, with the Burslem outfit having taken some of the Reds' most talented young players on loan, such as Toby Edser and Adam Crookes - who joined the Valiants on a permanent basis this summer.

Earlier this month, the two clubs met for a training day at the Nigel Doughty Academy, allowing Vale boss John Askey to cast his eye over Forest's Under-23s stars.

And midfielder Taylor seemingly caught his eye, and has been training with Askey's side since.

"Jake came in and he did well," Askey told the Stoke Sentinel.

"With the squad we have it is quite full, but if somebody went out then Jake is one that we would look at because I think he is a decent player."

League One and League Two clubs have until September 2 to complete any loan deals for players, allowing Askey more time to ponder any move for the 20-year-old.

"He is somebody we would definitely be interested in if we could do something," Askey continued.

"It is important now that we go with what we have got and see how we do. If we feel as though we need to strengthen in any area, or somebody gets injured then that is still available to us up until September."
