Port Vale keen to clinch signing of Nottingham Forest defender permanently

Port Vale are keen to keep Nottingham Forest youngster Adam Crookes in the Potteries beyond the end of the season.

Crookes is on loan at Vale Park from the City Ground, and started his 12th game in Saturday’s 2-0 home defeat to play-off chasing Forest Green Rovers.

Assistant boss Dave Kevan has been impressed with the 21-year-old’s application since arriving in January, following his spell at runaway League Two leaders Lincoln in the first half of the campaign.

“He has certainly given us plenty to think about in terms of that,” Kevan told Stoke on Trent Live.

“His performances have been good, he is good to have around the place and he works hard every day.

“He doesn’t say a great deal but you know he’s around.”

Crookes’ current deal at the City Ground expires at the end of this season and he has previously said he’s relaxed about the future , whether or not that involves being offered a new deal on Trentside.

Vale, however, are keen to make that loan move permanent should no deal be forthcoming at Forest, or take him on loan again if Martin O'Neill opts to keep him.

Derby County blocked my move to rivals Nottingham Forest, reveals striker Cameron Jerome

“It would be one that we would be looking to... we know the boy now and know the type of character he is which is important,” Kevan continued.

“But whether or not that is a possibility, we will look to go down that road when we can.”
