Port Tunnel and East Link toll bridge to only accept electronic tags or exact change for foreseeable future

The Port Tunnel and East Link toll bridge are to operate without operating staff for the foreseeable future.

A set toll of €3 will be in place, and only electronic tags or exact change will be accepted.

No cards will be accepted during the time.

The changes are being put into place to protect staff who may be at an exposure risk when dealing with the public during the coronavirus pandemic.

Posting an update last night, gardai said: "As of this evening, there will be no toll booth operators at Dublin Port Tunnel and the East Link Toll Bridge in both directions.

"Electronic toll tags or coin to be used only – no change given. No cards will be accepted during this time. Updates available @TIITraffic."

Dublin City Council said: "From 07:00 tomorrow 18th March , payment @ Tom Clarke Bridge can only be made by Tag or coins into the automatic coin machines.

"No notes or credit cards will be accepted. This is to protect toll staff by minimising exposure during their duties."

While TII said: "The toll at the Dublin Tunnel toll plaza will be €3 at all times until further notice.

"During this time, the only means of payment will be electronic tag or coin (exact change).

"No change will be given. We will advise of any further developments."
