Port Stephens boat rescue leads to drug charges for woman

A woman will face court early next year on drug charges after being rescued from a boat at Port Stephens over the weekend.

Water police rescused a 35-year-old woman off Tomaree Headland at Shoal Bay about 3.45pm on Saturday after it was noticed the small boat she was on was suffering mechanical issues and drifting.

During a search of the vessel, which was unregistered and without mandatory emergency equipment, officers seized methylamphetamine (ice) and cannabis.

The Nelson Bay woman is due to appear at Raymond Terrace Local Court on January 10 next year.
