The President and CEO of the Port of New Orleans, Brandy Christian, has announced her resignation to explore a new opportunity in the private sector. Christian, who has been in her role since 2017, will be stepping down in mid-June. The port commended her exemplary leadership in advancing plans for a new international cargo terminal project.
During her tenure, Christian played a pivotal role in guiding Port NOLA through challenges and achieving significant successes. She was instrumental in the development of the Louisiana International Terminal (LIT) project, set to commence construction in Violet next year. The project aims to enhance the port's competitiveness and retain container cargo volume that has been moving to rival ports.
Christian's background includes experience at the Port of San Diego and as a management consultant. She is among a small group of women leading major U.S. ports. The port's Board of Commissioners praised her vision and leadership in positioning Port NOLA as a key player in the global supply chain.
Following Christian's departure, the port's Chief Financial Officer, Ronald Wendel Jr., will serve as the interim leader. Plans for a formal search to fill the CEO position have not yet been announced.
Under Christian's leadership, the port also acquired the New Orleans Public Belt Railroad, providing direct access to all six Class I national rail operators. Her strategic initiatives have been credited with strengthening the port's infrastructure and connectivity.
Christian's contributions have been recognized as transformative for the Port of New Orleans, setting the stage for continued growth and development in the region's maritime industry.
