Port Hardy earthquake: Strong 6.2 tremor hits off coast of British Columbia in Canada

A strong tremor measuring a magnitude of 6.2 has hit off the coast of Canada, report the US Geological Survey.

The earthquake struck around 177 kilometres off Port Hardy in British Columbia on Christmas Eve.

The epicentre is located around 500 kilometres north of Vancouver on the west coast of the county with the quake hitting at 7.35pm local time.

It's depth has been recorded at around one to five kilometres - there are no early reports of damage.

According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the quake struck 518 kms west of Vancouver.

There is no current tsunami warning in effect, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

It comes after reports of multiple earthquakes in the area over the last few days.

However none have caused damage or led to tsunami alerts.
