Veteran forward Dragan Boskovic helped Port deliver the promised victory as they edged Ratchaburi 1-0 in a Thai League 1 game in front of their home crowd last night.
It is the first win this season for Port, who are hoping to put up a serious challenge for the title and dislodge defending champions Buriram United.
Port seemed to be heading for a second draw in as many games before Boskovic struck in the second half.
Ratchaburi were proving to be a tough nut to crack until they were slapped with a penalty in the 55th minute when their captain Philip Roller handled a ball.
The 33-year-old Boskovic, in his second year with Port, shouldered the responsibility of taking the penalty and converted with ease.
Elsewhere last night, hosts Nakhon Ratchasima conceded a second-half penalty to go down 2-1 to Chiang Rai United at His Majesty the King's 80th Birthday Anniversary Stadium.
William Henrique heeled a nifty pass from Siwakorn Tietrakul into the net to put the Beetles ahead as the match neared the half-hour mark.
However, Nakhon Ratchasima took only two minutes to cancel out Chiang Rai's advantage with a goal from Bernard Doumbia, who pounced on a rebound of his own shot to score from close range.
Both sides traded attacks in an exciting second half, but it was a costly tackle by Nakhon Ratchasima defender Pralong Sawandee that brought down William which sealed the fate of the match.
Bill Rosimar stepped to the spot and converted the match-winning penalty for Chiang Rai.
Newcomers Trat picked up their first point in the top flight after a 2-2 draw at home against Chainat, leaving former champions SCG Muang Thong United and PTT Rayong as the only two sides without a point in the league so far.
Chainat drew first blood in the 16th minute when defender Jaturapat Sattham gave them the edge.
However, the hosts hit back as a quick spurt of goals by Chenrop Samphaodi and Chalermsuk Kaewsuktae gave them the lead with only 12 minutes remaining.
Ricardo Santos ensured that Chainat won't return empty-handed, ensuring the draw for the visitors with a last-gasp strike.
Saturday night's late game between Chiangmai and Sukhothai ended in a goalless stalemate.
