Port and True Bangkok United re-established their Thai League 1 title credentials, scoring big wins on Saturday night at their respective home grounds.
All eyes were on PT Prachuap, who needed only a draw at PAT Stadium to break away from co-leaders Buriram United, but it was Jadet Meelarp's Port who went on a goal-scoring rampage to capture the top spot following a 5-0 triumph.
The 4-0 thrashing Bangkok United meted out to Suphanburi at True Stadium last night is bound to add pressure on the visitors' beleaguered coach Totchtawan Sripan.
The third defeat on the trot has sent Suphanburi to the bottom of the table with only six points from seven matches so far, while Bangkok United improved to fourth spot.
Port took time to get on the scoresheet but when they started, there was no stopping them.
In a game-changing last five minutes of the first half, Port found the net three times.
Their first goal came in the 40th minute when Bodin Phala hit the mark with a long shot.
Prachuap could have equalised but Matheus Alves was denied by Watchara Buathong and the visitors found themselves on the receiving end with Kevin Deeromram and South Korean midfielder Ko Seul-Ki widening the gap to 3-0.
Port looked even more dangerous in the second half but Prachuap had their moments as well, Herlison Caion seeing his shot blocked by Watchara.
The fourth goal for the Port came in the 68th minute from a free-kick by Pakorn Prempak before Arthit Boodjinda wrapped up the scoring for the hosts.
Port have moved to the top spot at least for a week with 14 points from seven matches.
Defending champions Buriram United, who have 12 points, are not in action this weekend. Their match at Chiangmai has been postponed due to the hazardous haze prevailing in the host province.
Bangkok United also had little trouble in claiming three points from struggling Suphanburi.
Nelson Bonilla put Bangkok United ahead in the 31st minute from the spot after Suphanburi's Kim Sung-Hwan committed a handball inside the penalty area.
The second goal came during the last minute of the first half when Anon Amornlertsak opened the ball for Mike Havenaar to head home from close range.
Bangkok United saw Bonilla produce the third after the break before Suphanburi presented them with the fourth when they let former Thailand striker Teerathep Winothai score in injury time.
