Port Adelaide's Robbie Gray diagnosed with testicular cancer

Port Adelaide's star forward Robbie Gray has been diagnosed with testicular cancer.

The Power said Gray recently had "successful surgery" to remove a tumour and would undergo "a short course of precautionary chemotherapy".

"The chemotherapy is a preventative measure to significantly reduce the chance of cancer returning," Port Adelaide club doctor Mark Fisher said in a statement.

Port Adelaide said the treatment was not expected to affect Gray's return to preseason training in November.

"Robbie's health and wellbeing is, as always, the most important thing to us," Port Adelaide's general manager Chris Davies said.

"We are thankful the surgery went as well as it could have."

Gray is a three-time All-Australian player and three-time Port Adelaide best and fairest winner.

The news of Gray's diagnosis saw a massive outpouring of support from the AFL community on social media.

Geelong's Patrick Dangerfield described Gray as "one of footy's good guys", while Cats skipper Joel Selwood and and West Coast's Nic Naitanui also tweeted their support.

Earlier this year Melbourne's Jesse Hogan was diagnosed with testicular cancer before undergoing surgery.

He did not have chemotherapy and returned to the playing field later in this season.
