Port Adelaide confirms interest in Sydney's Jordan Dawson, as pressure grows on coach Ken Hinkley

Port Adelaide has confirmed its interest in want-away Swan Jordan Dawson, as pressure continues to grow on head coach Ken Hinkley.

Dawson has been offered a contract by his club, the Sydney Swans. However, he told the club last week he would like to return home to South Australia.

The Power and the Adelaide Crows are now expected to battle for his signature.

Port Adelaide's head of football Chris Davies today said the club would always consider players that wanted to return home to SA.

"Any South Australian player that's looking to come home we have a responsibility to do our due diligence on," he said.

"I think he's the type of player who's obviously had a fantastic year, we had some real interest in him in his draft year.

Dawson may not be the only player on the radar, with GWS forward Jeremy Finlayson also linked to a move to Alberton.

Davies did not confirm if the club had spoken to him, but said Finlayson was also a player the club would consider.

"If someone like Jeremy Finlayson wanted to come to South Australia then of course we'd have some level of interest," he said.

"But as I understand it he's contracted with GWS so until those things play out we won't be speculating too much."

'Clearly, we've got another step to go'

Pressure continues to build on Hinkley after another preliminary final loss, with the Power yet to play in a grand final under his coaching.

But Davies said it was the whole club's responsibility, not just Hinkley.

"We've now put ourselves in the position two years in a row where we're there to compete, that's a first step but clearly we've got another step to go and all of our people take the right responsibility for that, including Ken."

The club this week farewelled veteran Hamish Hartlett, who played 193 games with the Power.

A number of players remain out of contract for next year, including Jarrod Lienert, Riley Bonner and Steven Motlop.

All three are expected to be offered new contracts in the coming weeks, but Davies said the club wouldn't stop any player from looking for another opportunity.

"There's no-one else there who we're going to de-list right now," he said.

"There's some guys who clearly might want to look at what their alternatives are in terms of more games, potentially, at other clubs and we'll allow those guys to contemplate that."

Veteran Robbie Gray is also out of contract but is expected to be at Alberton in 2022.
