Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley says his AFL side are good, but not great yet.
The Power host Fremantle at Adelaide Oval in a Sunday twilight fixture with Hinkley eager to bank an eighth win of the season.
"We have to get tomorrow night done," Hinkley told reporters on Saturday.
"That would get us to potentially our bye at eight (wins) and three (losses).
"We will assess from there, we will improve. We will get better ... it's not a bad spot to be at but we have been a good side, not a great side."
Hinkley said his outfit, considered a premiership contender after being beaten preliminary finalists last season, were being challenged to close the gap on this year's upper echelon.
"We look at the sides that have done it in the past - Richmond is a perfect example of being able to do it and it took them a while," he said.
"Once they got there, they have been able to stay there for a good period of time. That is what we are trying to do in a pretty tough competition.
"I would have said 11-0 would have been fantastic but I know eight and three is a good return, if we can get there.
"We are seven and three and it is a really big game for us to get to eight and three, we would go to the halfway mark not satisfied but knowing we have done a fair job."
Port, in fifth spot, axed stalwart Hamish Hartlett for the fixture against the 10th-placed Dockers, who have a five-five win-loss ledger.
"By his own feedback, he has been inconsistent," Hinkley said of Hartlett.
"He has had some highlights in most games but he also he has had some stuff that he would like to be better at and more consistent at.
"Hamish knows exactly where he is at ... he is a pretty important part of our team and we'd like to think it won't take him long to get back into some form."
Hartlett has been replaced by Orazia Fantasia while Freo recalled Andrew Brayshaw at the expense of the injured Matt Taberner.
