Porsche CEO Matthias Müller to become the new Volkswagen CEO

Porsche CEO Matthias Müller to become the new Volkswagen CEO ()

Matthias Müller, the CEO of Porsche, is set to become the new Volkswagen CEO, according to reports.

Müller was picked by a majority on the carmaker’s 20-member supervisory panel. He replaces Martin Winterkorn, who resigned as head of Volkswagen after nine years on Wednesday after it emerged that the car manufacturer had rigged emissions tests in the US.

The German transport minister, Alexander Dobrindt, said on Thursday that Volkswagen used the same software to falsify emissions tests in Europe.

Volkswagen will reportedly fire three more executives on Friday. The head of operations at Volkswagen US as well as top engineers at Audi and Porsche will lose their jobs on Friday, Reuters reported, citing a senior source.

“There will be further personnel consequences in the next days and we are calling for those consequences,” Volkswagen board member Olaf Lies told local reporters.

Volkswagen has admitted to falsifying the results of emissions tests for the Jetta, Beetle, Audi, A3 and Golf models dating 2009-2015 and Passat models dating 2014-2015 to pass stringent US Environment Protection Agency regulations.

It is not known how many of the 11 million affected vehicles are in Europe.
