Porsche building work begins on new supercar showroom for Nottingham

Work has begun on a new Porsche showroom and service centre for Nottingham. The new showroom will be built on a site near Melton Road and north of Wheatcroft Island, in Edwalton.

The showroom will replace the existing location which is located near the Riverside Retail Park, off the A453 Queens Drive. It is believed that the 40 members of staff will move with the business but up to 10 new roles could be created after the business 'outgrew' its current location.

Photos show that fences have been installed on the cleared grounds to block access to the site while building materials have also appeared. Derby construction business Davlyn confirmed that work has started on the property which is expected to take up to a year to complete.

A document within the application stated: "The Porsche dealership will be a gateway feature for the area and will be the source of a positive multiplier effect for other prestigious and leading brands and businesses who will want to enjoy the associative benefits of location in the area once the Porsche dealership is established."

The plans for the showroom and surrounding development were submitted to Rushcliffe Borough Council in January.

Originally, plans were submitted for 60 retirement homes and a new pub or restaurant however this appears to no longer be in consideration. Supermarket chain Waitrose has also opted out of progressing with plans to develop a supermarket on the site.
