Porridge lattes are set to be the next big trend - combining breakfast and coffee

A typical morning might see us make ourselves a bowl of warm porridge and a steaming mug of coffee.

But have you ever thought about combining the two?

No, me either, but apparently porridge lattes are a thing and they are likely to become a big trend across the UK very soon.

Also known as an oatmeal latte, the creative beverage is made using milk, rolled oats, a double espresso shot and is topped off with a sprinkling of crunchy granola.

The first mention of the concoction was in Bon Appetit back in 2015.

The "intriguing dish" is said to be the creation of Johanna Hirschboeck, owner of Colorado-based coffee shop  Cuppa Joe .

In order to make it, she mixes the rolled oats with whole milk, then uses the steamer attachment of an espresso machine to cook the oats and heat the milk until it starts to foam (this can also be done at home on the hob).

Once at the right temperature, she pours this into a big mug and tops with a double shot of espresso and some granola.

And there you have it, one porridge latte - but the real question, is whether you sip it or eat it with a spoon?

Caffè Nero launch 'Coffee Cured Bacon Sandwich' but how does it taste?

According to Metro, this bizarre breakfast drink is rumoured to be part of the secret menu at Starbucks.

The coffee chain has launched a range of unique drink combinations in recent months, including a limited edition cereal latte.

This was made using a powder comprised of oat, barley and wheat - which are the three main ingredients in a bowl of Cheerios.

Starbucks have also recently announced the return of their fall favourite, the Pumpkin Spice Latte, which is set to be back on the menu from September 5 onwards.
