Porridge café in Bristol to close less than two years after opening

A café which specialises in porridge will close later this month, less than two years after opening.

Bristol Porridge Project is tucked away behind Colston Hall on Trenchard Street, but it has built up a loyal following thanks to its quality offering.

It has a highly impressive rating of 5/5 on TripAdvisor from 40 reviews , with people praising its porridge and first-rate service.

But the cosy café will close on June 29, with owner Adam Sheppard explaining 'trading has been difficult' lately due to nearby construction work.

There is some good news though, as the porridge fanatic hopes to relocate to a new site.

In a statement shared on Bristol Porridge Project's social media pages, Adam said: "Sadly, on June 29th we will close our doors on Trenchard Street for the last time.

"Recent trading has been difficult due to the construction work on our doorstep, and in July pedestrian access along Trenchard Street will be lost until Oct 2021, something which we cannot survive.

"While this is an extremely sad situation, we are choosing to look forwards and we hope to relocate, so it may not be the end…

"Huge thanks everyone who has visited us along the way, all who came to that strange little place that only served porridge, those who helped us think up the names, those who brought us flowers to brighten up our tables, those who told their friends who told their friends, the patient ones who visit between 10-12 on a Saturday when it really is bedlam, to the friends we have made and the conversations we have had, it’s been a blast.

"Hope to see some of you over the next 4 weeks."

Adam did not want to comment further when approached by Bristol Live.
