Deputy auditor-general Pornchai Jumroonpanichkul has been appointed acting auditor-general under a Section 44 order, effective on Tuesday.

The appointment was made on Friday by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, who used his power as National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) chief to invoke Section 44 of the interim charter, which has been carried over to the new constitution.

According to the order, with auditor-general Pisit Leelavachiropasset  to complete his term on Sept 25, the charter and organic law require an acting auditor-general be appointed.

Failure to do so would undermine confidence and the effectiveness of the national administration.

Mr Pornchai is the most senior of the deputy auditors-general. He will serve as the acting auditor-general until the new auditor-general is appointed, or any other changes made by the NCPO chief.
