Pork Pies, Stilton Blue cheese and pasties to be banned from EU after no deal Brexit

Pork pies and Stilton cheese will be banned from luggage for holidaymakers travelling to Europe in the event of a no-deal Brexit , it has been claimed.

The EU has warned that the East Midlands delicacies - along with other Great British favourites such as Cornish pasties, Cheddar cheese and clotted cream, could be banned.

According to CornwallLive, these items will all be treated as contraband in either hand luggage or luggage stored in a hold.

It follows an interview with a senior EU official published in The Daily Telegraph.

He said: “You will have to pick and choose what you are bringing from the UK.

“Any animal-based product you will not want to put into your luggage. No import of any ham, sausage or other delicacies. that’s the end of that."

The move will be introduced to prevent British produce introducing serious diseases into the EU, and would extend to fresh meat, offal, game, poultry, fish, milk, eggs, honey, bone products and gelatine.

Customs controls will be re-introduced for goods and people travelling from the UK to EU states.

Ignoring the ban will count as smuggling and could result in large fines or even prison sentences.

The Melton Mowbray pork pie , Stilton Blue cheese and the Cornish pasty are among a range of UK registered products protected under an EU scheme highlighting regional and traditional foods whose authenticity and origin can be guaranteed.
