Popular Yate takeaway given one-star hygiene rating

A popular Yate takeaway has been handed a one-star rating for food hygiene.

Firats Place, on Heron Way, has been told “major improvement” is needed following an inspection on December 16.

The restaurant has challenged the report and says it has secured a re-inspection for this week.

The takeaway, which specialises in kebabs and pizza, was rated “generally satisfactory” for its hygienic food handling, and “improvement necessary” for its cleanliness and condition of facilities.

The inspector said “major improvement” is required in relation to its management of food safety.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) defines management of food safety as: “System or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in the future.”

The manager of the takeaway claims the inspector "misunderstood", and says they are awaiting a re-inspection.

The ‘dine in’ or ‘takeout’ restaurant sells kebabs, wraps, fried chicken, pizzas, burgers, desserts and drinks.

It’s highly rated on Google, with one customer writing: “Really good menu choices…pizza, kebabs and fried chicken…friendly staff."
