A popular cellist based in the West of Ireland has released an emotional rendition of a Ukrainian folk song to mark one year since the war began.
Patrick Dexter, originally from Dublin but now living on the west coast, paid homage to the plight of the Ukrainian people by performing 'Oh, In the Cherry Garden."
The classical musician, who's channel went viral during the quiet of the Covid lockdowns, said: "Thoughts with the people of Ukraine one year on from the invasion."
On February 24, 2022 Russia invaded Ukraine, which so far has claimed at least 42, 295 lives on either side and caused at least 56,756 non-fatal injuries.
Ukraine has managed to defy all odds in defending its sovereign nation, as Putin continues to wage war in a bid to rebuild the now defunct USSR.
Approximately 14 million people have been displaced while 140,000 buildings have been destroyed, resulting in $350 billion worth of property damage.
Oh, in the Cherry Garden is a song about forbidden love that tells the story of a couple that meet in a cherry orchard to say goodbye to each other.
One commenter said: "Beautiful song and beautifully played, Patrick...…May God be with the people of Ukraine..."
While another said: "Magnificent and haunting. My thoughts are daily with the people of Ukraine."
